Why we will fail to have a great career is the title of economist Larry Smith’s famous TED talk and he talks about people only aspiring to have good rather than great careers as one of the factors. He also mentions excuses that

I actually think the comfort zone is the #1 killer of great careers.

We are all creatures of habit, so even when things feel off in what we are doing – most of us will stay put because it feels familiar.

I think another reason we will fail to have a great career is that most of us don’t spend the time going through a systematic process of mapping out what it might look like.
